Unlike most of the other islands in the Marshall Islands, Jabat Island, sometimes called Jabwot Island, is a rocky island rather than a coral atoll, although it is surrounded by fringing shallow water coral reefs that extend for several kilometers beyond the outer reef to the north and south.
Probably its most important claim to fame is that former President Kessai Note was born on the island in 1950. He was President from January 10, 2000, to January 14, 2008.
The COP29 global climate summit in Azerbaijan features a large delegation from the Marshall Islands, including a significant contingent of young people. They have been speaking on different subject panels, networking with donors and people from other countries, and representing the Marshall Islands in its outreach program at COP29.
