Beran Island on Ailinglaplap is open for action!

After being closed for a couple of years, Martin Daly’s website www.indiestrader.com announced September 21, 2022: “With the border gate now well and truly swung open and off the hinges out in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) our first surf season in two years is looming large along with a forecast La Nina year. The first storms in the North Pacific have started to show and fingers crossed we are in for a stellar comeback season. Beran has some brand-new shiny equipment inbound as we speak and the team is standing by to deliver a truly epic experience.”

Australian water sports entrepreneur Martin Daly first visited Beran in 2006 and since then he’s worked long and hard to bring the water sports resort to reality.

According to Martin’s Indies Trader web site, Beran Island is about 45 acres and is central to the best surfing spots on the atoll. As well as the resort building, Martin has constructed a concrete wharf and two miles of roads on the island. World champion athletes who have visited Beran include surfer Kelly Slater.

Martin’s fleet of boats available for charter in RMI include: MV Indies Trader 1 & 2, the Windward, and a 23-foot Shark Cat. “On the two main boats, Indies Trader 1 and Windward, we can accommodate up to 20 guests,” says Martin. “The normal routine is to range out from the island on day trips on one of the craft, depending on personal requirements. If it looks like we have a big swell that is going to last a few days, we may take one of the larger boats or both up to one of the further away passes and stay overnight or as long as the swell lasts.”
