April, 2018: This glorious photo (left) of Majuro recently went viral on social media but, sadly, there was no name attached to the shot. But after a bit of hunting, and a nice dose of help from friends, the photographer has been found: It’s Jamison Logan, a young man who teaches sixth grade at the Seventh Day Adventist school.

“I’ve always had photography as a hobby, but I’ve been enjoying my camera more here,” Jamison said.

Jamison, who is from Portland, Oregon, arrived in Majuro in August 2017 and soon started filling folders with shots of Majuro and Arno. “Then I realized that I really had to have a drone, so I ordered one in from the States.”

The past year has been a gap year for Jamison, who has completed one year of mechanical engineering at Walla Walla University in Washington States. “But now I’ve changed career paths and when I go back to Walla Walla I plan to switch to business administration.” He hopes this will give him the financial skills to start his own photography business.

For those with an interest in photography, for ground work Jamison uses a Sony NEX 5R and for aerial shots and footage he uses a DJI Spark drone, which cost him about $650 with the controller included.

Jamison’s top three tips for photographers using any type of camera from a smartphone up are:

Place your subject to one side of the frame to add interest.

Shoot with your back to the sun.

Shoot during the first half-hour after sunrise and the last half-hour before sunset for the best lighting.
